Do You Know These Hockey Safety Tips?

by Andrew Hoffmann

Due to the nature of the game, you can't protect yourself from injuries in hockey if you aren't aware of all the safety tips. From flying hockey sticks to hard rubber pucks that get frozen before games and sharp blades on skates, there can be a lot of dangers. If you get hit "just right" by a flying puck, you are sure to at least come away with a good bruise. That is the best you can hope for with hockey. Then you get things like muscle pulls or sprains or other injuries. Yes, there are plenty of dangers in hockey. That is why hockey players always need to be fully aware of what is going on all the time. We will present you with a few hockey safety tips that are critical in protecting you against any serious damage.

The easiest way to defend against injury as much as you can is to be prepared and aware of as many hockey safety tips as possible. If you are a novice player then the first thing you need to do is learn about all the safety gear hockey players use. You probably know quite a bit about what is going on though is you have played before. Even so, you must still make sure that your hockey safety gear can still protect you and is in good working order. If any of your gear was damaged in another game, then you really need to think about having it replaced.

You always need to ensure that your safety gear is a good fit. Believe it or not, but you can help to avoid serious injury if your helmet and other critical safety equipment fits you right. Your equipment will be useless and unable to do its job properly if it doesn't fit you well. You will basically be compromising your own safety and putting yourself in danger. For example, your helmet should never be overly loose. If you take a fall, which is highly likely in hockey, then you can still get hurt if you hit your head. All of your pads should also be a good fit and fastened well so they won't move during the game.

We are pretty sure that you are attached to your teeth and would prefer they stay in your mouth. For this reason, a mouth-guard is a critical piece of safety equipment you need to wear. Although, this piece of equipment won't be shielding just your teeth from damage. We are also quite certain that you place just as much value on your tongue, lips and gums. You will be injured to a certain degree if you get hit in the mouth by a flying puck or a stick. However, with a mouth-guard you will be able to protect some of your teeth from flying out. This type of injury will inevitably lead to the need for some dental work to repair the damage.

One piece of hockey safety equipment that should be used more often is the protective visor. Despite this, you will often see pro hockey players who are smart enough to use them. The hard plastic protective visor works to protect the face and eyes from injury. Getting hit by a hockey stick blade or a puck can lead to serious injuries and it happens more often than you realize. You will find that no safety gear can defend you 100% against being injured. However, wearing it and wearing it properly can seriously reduce the chances of injury. The most critical aspect to hockey is to ensure that you play safely. This doesn't mean you have to be too soft when playing, it simply means that you need to know your hockey safety tips well and wear the best of the best when it comes to safety equipment.
