Have a Skill Worthy of the Fair?

by Sam Weyland

When thinking about festivals or fairs, one would probably think about rides, or maybe the cotton candy or even the carnival games wherein the prize for good marksmanship is a stuffed teddy bear. It is something that is geared towards kids, or maybe even hormonally-high teenagers. Adults, however, of the entrepreneurial set most especially, will find something else that will interest them.

Booths that sell varied wares are also an integral part of any festival, and you may be of the right business mindset for earning a little extra income here. Be that as it may, you will naturally ask what you can possibly sell at such a show. The only answer to that is whatever you, as a person with interests, can offer.

Perhaps you enjoyed woodcarving back in your High School Arts and Crafts class, and would like to pursue it further. Maybe you have a sensitive tongue that lends well with experimenting with the kitchen. Whatever your talent is, you can showcase that craft in fairs and festivals, all while earning money on the side.

If you're going for it, be prepared to go through the hassle of choosing which even to join. In the state of Florida, there are typically lots of events within a year to choose from, and the most efficient way to wade through the number of events scheduled is to go online. Find a website that keeps track of these events. Read on and I'll link you to a site I personally recommend.

The site can only do so much, though. Like all businesses, big and small, you yourself have to go out into the fray and talk to people to get the ball rolling. After choosing a possible venue or venues, contact the event organizers. Ask around and inquire about how they handle things. Most will appreciate your concern and would much rather sort everything out beforehand than hear complaints later.
